Mitzvah Mall.jpg

As a congregation, Mishkan Israel has its roots firmly planted in social justice and we work hard as a community to live our values. For our virtual Mitzvah Mall, we bring that commitment to reality. We encourage you and your families to support these local organizations or an organization you prefer whose feet are firmly planted in helping those in need. Together, we can honor our commitment to Tikkun Olam and work to repair our world.

Let us know that you have given by adding to the CMI Giving Tree.

COLUMBUS HOUSE

"Columbus House’s mission is to serve people who are homeless or at risk of becoming homeless by providing shelter and housing and by fostering their personal growth and independence."

Our congregation has always played an important role in the Abraham's Tent program, which brings the homeless into our synagogue to provide shelter from the cold during the winter months. This year, more than ever they need our support to maintain housing for those who need it most.

CHEVRA HANDS

Chevra Hands is a part of the CMI community. These women volunteer their time to create beautiful shawls and baby blankets to let our congregants know that they are truly cared about. When COVID hit, this group of phenomenal women sewed hundreds of masks for those in need in our community and beyond. Their tireless efforts to allow people to feel a part of us is more than commendable.

MUSIC HAVEN

"At Music Haven, young musicians study with and are mentored by members of our resident ensemble, the Haven String Quartet, or one of our other full-time conservatory-trained professional Resident Musicians, from when they are in first, second, or third grade until they graduate from high school. At the heart of our model is the relationship between teacher and student, and the relationships between the young musicians, themselves—they learn not only from the members of the string quartet, but also from the foundations of chamber music: listening to each other, working as a team, communicating through music, and dedication and focus in service of creating something beautiful together. Through music, they build community, develop resilience and self confidence, and experience collective struggle and success."

LEAP

"Leadership, Education and Athletics in Partnership, Inc. (LEAP) was founded in 1992 by educators, students, and community activists to address the historic disinvestment in young people of color in our city. Then and now LEAP believes that young people have the intellect, enthusiasm, courage, and leadership potential to make real change. LEAP creates the space and marshals the resources so that young leaders can mentor, educate and care for the children of New Haven."
