Special Funds

  • Rabbi’s Discretionary Fund – Supports activities and programs that are consistent with the CMI mission and values, both within and outside the congregation, as determined at the sole discretion of the rabbi. 

  • Herbert N. Brockman Rabbinic Endowment Fund – Supports salary and benefits for the current CMI rabbi. 

Endowment Funds - Invested for Long Term Use

Endowment funds support the synagogue’s programs and activities organized around our core Jewish values of prayer, learning, and tikkun olam (repairing our world).

  • General

    • General Unrestricted Endowment Fund – Supports a wide range of general and specific operating expenses of the synagogue, as determined annually by the Board of Trustees. 

    • Links Estate Fund – Same as General Unrestricted Endowment Fund. 

    • J. Yale Rubin Fund – Same as General Unrestricted Endowment Fund. 

    • Simon Kleiner Fund – Same as General Unrestricted Endowment Fund

  • Buildings and Grounds Maintenance

    • Lapides Memorial Fund – Currently supports grounds beautification. 

    • Goldstein Memorial Fund – Currently supports the care of courtyard gardens.

  • Cemetery

    • Cemetery Fund – Supports maintenance and administration of cemetery grounds and Chapel, as determined annually by the Board of Trustees.

  • Flowers

    • Rubington Flower Fund – Supported bimah Yahrzeit flowers for the first 50 years of the fund. Since 2020, per donor instructions, should be used for the same purposes as the General Unrestricted Endowment Fund.

  • Library

    • Duhan Library Fund – Supports CMI library, including the purchase of books. 

    • Isaac & Harriet Breslav and Carl & Pauline Dektor Library Fund – Supports purchase of books for CMI library, with special attention to children’s books. 

  • Music

    • Isador E. Offenbach Musical Service Fund – Currently supports cost of annual special musical service. 

    • Dr. Louis H. Nahum & Stella K. Nahum Music Fund – Supports expenses of providing the music during the High Holy Days. 

  • Peace and Justice

    • Robert Goldburg Peace and Justice Fund – Supports the annual Rabbi Robert Goldburg Peace and Justice service.

  • Presidential Leadership

    • Schaefer Family Fund – To give the president of the Congregation some discretionary monies to spend to further specific priorities of that president.

  • Religious School

    • Religious School Trust Fund – Provides general support for the CMI religious school. 

    • Benjamin Levine Scholarship Fund – Supports scholarships and prizes in the CMI religious school. 

    • Jay Bovilsky Scholarship Fund – Assists families who could not otherwise afford to pay the full cost to send their child to the CMI religious school. 

    • Jonathan Lurier Art Fund – Currently supports art instruction in the CMI religious school. 

  • Special Onegs

    • Kauffman Family Fund – Supports the expenses for special Shabbat Onegs throughout the year.

  • Transportation

    • Mabel Klebanoff Fund – Supports the purchase and upkeep of a passenger van for CMI’s use.

  • Youth

    • Youth Trust Fund – Supports youth programs and activities. 

    • Abraham S. and Helen Ullman Youth Fund – Supports youth programs and activities. 

    • Arthur and Evette Eder Fund – Supports youth programs and activities. 

    • Bernard D. Miller Fund – Supports youth programs and activities. 

  • Youth Scholarships

    • Nathan Gans Memorial Fund – Supports a prize for a religious school student who pursues a work-study program in Israel. 

    • Patt Stitzel Campership Fund – Supports summer camp scholarships. 

    • Rhea Duhan Nathan Youth Fund – Supports youth scholarships.
