and CMI's own social justice quilter, Sue Millen!
Hello to All - Hope you are having a wonderful summer! We are looking forward to welcoming you to our annual dinner gathering.
Susi Ryan, co-founder of Sisters-in-Stitches Joined by the Cloth, fiber artist and social justice activist, will be our guest speaker. Ms. Ryan is a descendant of Venture Smith, the first Black man to leave a first-hand account of his capture from Africa and his experience as an enslaved person in the U.S. She and her family are featured in the CT Public “Unforgotten” Series created and produced by Diane Orson. Ms. Ryan will display her quilts and use them to share her family history.
Sue Millen will also display her Civil Rights quilt.
We will have the opportunity to deepen our historical knowledge, and to discuss upcoming Confronting Racism programs.
