Please join us for a special evening celebrating Juneteenth, when more than 250,000 enslaved black people in Texas finally received the news, more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation, that they had gained their freedom.
Our guest speaker will be Frank Mitchell, who will speak about "Tasting Freedom: A Juneteenth Celebration"
Frank Mitchell is a cultural organizer in visual arts and public humanities. He is curatorial adviser for the Toni N. and Wendell C. Harp Historical Museum at The Dixwell Q House — the relaunch of a legacy heritage organization based in New Haven’s African-American neighborhoods. His curatorial and interpretive projects include the exhibitions Who Governs; Afrocosmologies: American Reflections; Soulfood: African American Cooking and Creativity; and A Birds-Eye View: Citizen Science & Social Media.
After services, please join us for a special oneg.
During services, we will have an opportunity to say the mi shebeirach, read the kaddish list, and recite the mourner’s kaddish. If you wish to add additional names to the mi shebeirach or kaddish list, please email Sarah Legassey by 12pm on Friday.
